The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively.
The National Education Association (NEA) provide online programs for all teachers to include lessons on the history and culture of Spanish speaking countries.
One popular lesson is entitled, My Home Country: Celebrating diversity in the classroom by inviting students to share photos of their hometowns, important cultural items, and basic phrases in their native Spanish speaking language.
Cherry Village Apartments, management and staff, recognize the importance of celebrating the Spanish speaking residents of Cherry Village Apartments community. Ms. Betty Walker known as the “light of affordable housing” and the Executive Director of Cherry Village Apartments is dedicating the month of October for honoring José Antonio Velázquez -painter. (1906 -1983). Velásquez is considered the first primitivist painter in the American continent.
